I hereby guide this historical text to its final destination. Pirate, Gol D. Roger
This is my attempt at creating a fanlang for One Piece's Ancient Language and its script, Poneglyph. I used this panel from manga chapter 301 as my guide, since it's the only version of the text that has a direct translation--kind of like the Rosetta Stone of Poneglyphs, lol
For the base, I used Middle Japanese words (though not every word I needed could be found) and evolved them to resemble Ancient Egyptian phonesthetics. The language follows a Triconsonantal Root system, but several noun-derived groups use quadriliteral roots. The word order is OSV, with prepositions, possessive-possessee structure, and adjective phrases preceding nouns
For the script, I combined Logograms and Abjad, with several syllabaries for noun endings. The writing direction is Boustrophedon, flowing top to bottom. As for the style, I mostly followed Oda's original design for the script which is also inspired by the script from the Studio Ghibli's Laputa Sky in the Castle, though I standardized the glyphs
This is still a work in progress. I'm planning to make a YouTube video to explain the language further and also document it properly in a written format with a vocabulary list in Google Sheets.
